Late January

Interruption by Rain

I had wanted to spend more time with photography, but that has not been an option this week. While the weather has been a bit warmer, it's still pretty cold outside. But more importantly, I've had distractions.

The Engineer's Week program is a problem. I discovered on Sunday that the I'm scheduled to give a presention in Colonie at 11am, followed by a presentation in Schenectady at 12 noon. That's simply not possible. Then, when I tried to resolve that, I learned that Jose had set me up as the coordinator of the morning session without telling me. I don't have any problem being the coordinator, but it would have been nice to know that I was supposed to do that. I've tried to contact the other two speakers, and did chase down one, but the other guy is a moving target. In fact, the individual's name was changed overnight. The person who is now listed got my e-mail today, but he didn't respond to my questions. And then there is the matter that I don't have a laptop or projector, and was hoping that one of the other speakers would let me use his.

On top of that, I'm still struggling with the problem in the January issue of the Magazine. I know what the outcome needs to be, and now it's a matter of working with the authors to help them understand what they need to do. That's a very touchy situation.

And the time has come to work on the May issue. I've made a lot of progress, but there is still more to be done.

Finally, this week it became apparent that no one had contacted the authors for the I&CPS conference this spring - even though the deadline for them to submit their manuscripts was supposed to be next week. I updated the author instructions, and Bill is working on finalizing the program, so perhaps that will come together in spite of the problems.

This picture is one of my all-time favorites. Sayles Hall, Parent's Weekend at Brown University, October, 1995. We really enjoyed the experience.
